Happy Days

I stayed at Happy Days the first week of September. I was welcomed from my transfer bus by Faye at reception who was very friendly, had a nice chat and gave us our room keys. A room deposit (you get this back at checkout) and small tax is payable at the property, as well as air con. I had read mixed reviews about HD and had booked expect something fairly basic (my partner and I don’t spend much time in the hotel)… I was really pleased with our studio room! It was very clean, well equipped enough for a comfortable self catering stay and the room was fresh looking and quite modern. Our balcony had a sea view and a mountain view. The bathroom had beautiful tiling and the shower was great, very powerful. We were provided with towels. The pool is clean, with lots of sunbeds and a bar with friendly staff and a decent sized menu of snacks, cocktails etc. Guests at the hotel varied from teenagers/early twenties groups, families and older couples. We are a 25 year old couple and for us this was a nice mix. The beach is around a 15 minute walk and there is a choice of shops and eateries within a 3 minute walk of the hotel. For anyone thinking of travelling during the Covid pandemic it certainly can be done safely – staff at the hotel are wearing masks, guests are also asked to do so whilst in public areas of the hotel. The sunbeds and tables at the pool bar can easily be spaced out for social distancing. Masks are required to be worn in shops around Greece at the time of writing this post. Staff in restaurants and bars are also wearing masks but happy for you to remove them for eating/drinking. We went down the main strip of Malia a couple of times and it is quite busy 8pm onward until 12 when the bars are required to shut at the moment. We chose to explore the old town area quite a bit as it’s quieter with beautiful authentic family restaurants and easier to distance from others whilst enjoying your evening. Overall we had a fantastic short trip in Crete and can not wait to return! Big thanks to staff at Happy Days :)

The Hotel Happy Days or Happy Days Studios – as it is also called on Google Maps – is a family-run hotel on the “beautiful” side of Malia, i.e. the old town side as seen from the main street, whereby the old town with the beautiful restaurants is approx. 400 m is easily accessible on foot. The small hotel is run by the super-friendly owners and staff, who met all of our needs. The vegetarian food for one of our daughters was also cooked separately by the kitchen every evening. The food was simple but good, and always something other than gyros. No buffet. The clean studio facing the street was great. Two separate bedrooms with good mattresses in the beds and each with a large balcony, a functional bathroom – we didn’t use the kitchen except for the fridge. The dishes would have been a bit scarce if we had really wanted to cook. Towards the street it could get a bit noisy in the main season due to the youngsters with their quads. But the hotel can’t help that. We enjoyed our stay very much and would want to stay in exactly this apartment again at any time.

When sitting on the bus to come home i felt like i was leaving my family behind, stayed here for one week with my husband, the room was immaculate, the pools and areas surrounding it were kept clean all the time, we ate there most nights and the food was really good, but the best thing was the family that owned it, nothing was too much trouble for them and they always made sure we had everything we needed and much more. I have traveled a lot over the years but never found people as nice as these, Georgia, Chris , Faye and Mother you are lovely amazing people.

We had a great time ! Very welcoming people with whom communication is easy! The managers have a good sense of humor and are really cool! I recommend this establishment near the beach but also the shops! A terrific family business!

Family we’re lovely, Chris was hilarious! Pool and bar area nice and clean, cocktails delicious and food too! Good quiet area far enough from the strip so that you could get a good sleep.

We had a very good stay at Fotini. The hosts are welcoming and attentive to the slightest. The room is cute with the pool and the bar / restaurant. The value for money is just top. The location is niquel, 5min walk from the center and 10 also but by car to go to Malia beach. I recommend this place that will appeal to everyone, young and old, both for partying and for lazing around :). Go there without hesitation
